Pre-wedding photography in Amsterdam: top places to visit
Over the years I have photographed many prewedding shoots in Amsterdam. In this post I will highlight some of the best places in the city you can choose as the backdrop for your photoshoot. Amsterdam is known all around the world for its famous canals and charming architecture. It truly is a unique city, making it the perfect place for a prewedding shoot. Here are my favorite locations in the city for some great prewedding shots!
Historical old streets and many canals
The city has more than one hundred kilometers of canals, dug in the 17th century during the Golden Age. There are three main canals (Herengracht, Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht) that circle the city, but no matter where you go in Amsterdam, there is always a canal nearby. The city if full of them, most of them connected by old bridges. Along the canals are the iconic Dutch houses dating back from the 15th century. The entire city is preserved beautifully and walking around the cobblestone streets takes you back in time. Each house is uniquely decorated and different so you will have plenty of spots to choose from.
I will guide you through the most scenic and quiet streets of Amsterdam to avoid the large crowds of tourists. You will be surrounded by locals to truly get a sense of Dutch life.
The different seasons in the city
No matter which time of the year you visit Amsterdam, the city is always stunning and offers something unique. With millions of flowers in bloom and the weather slowly warming up, spring season is arguably the best time of year to visit Amsterdam. This is also the time tulip season starts in the Netherlands, making it the perfect time to combine your Amsterdam prewedding photoshoot with some prewedding photos at the Flower Gardens of Keukenhof, not too far from Amsterdam. In summer, the entire city is full of green and with comfortable temperatures. During the fall, the city turns orange and yellow, showing the true fall colors. In the winter you might even be lucky enough to stroll around the city covered with a beautiful white blanket of snow!
Historical buildings with a lot of character
Amsterdam is studded with many buildings of historical importance to the Netherlands. During your prewedding shoot we will most likely stop by a few of these iconic buildings to capture the beauty Amsterdam has to offer. Examples of buildings and landmarks include the Royal Palace at the Dam Square, the world renowned Rijksmuseum and the beautifully restored Central Station. There is plenty to choose from. Being a rather compact city, we can easily explore these iconic landmarks during your prewedding shoot without having to travel far.
Prewedding photography in the Netherlands
Besides Amsterdam, the Netherlands is filled with many other beautiful places to take prewedding photos. Have you considered combining the city with the iconic windmill village of Zaanse Schans, or the beautiful flower gardens and endless tulip fields of Keukenhof?
