How about a unique wedding venue in the Netherlands! As soon as you set foot on the island of Vlieland, you feel like you’re on vacation. There are hardly any cars in sight, everyone is on bicycles and the atmosphere just seems peaceful. This is my second time on an island off the coast of the Netherlands, my first time being on the island of Texel for another wedding a few years back. Vlieland seems even more remote than Texel.
Every summer, Samantha and Patrick would spend their holidays on Vlieland and therefore thought it was the perfect place for them to get married. Their ceremony took place at the Drenkelingenhuisje, a small hut located in the middle of Europe’s largest sand plains, known as the Sahara of the north. This hut was formerly a refuge for stranded castaways and has now been converted into a museum. Before the ceremony, Samantha and Patrick took their son on a fun bike trip throughout the island and visited some of their favorite spots, including the lighthouse! We arrived back at the beach where all the guests were waiting to hop on the Vliehors Expres, a big truck which takes you along the coast to the sand dunes. When we arrived, it felt as though we were stranded in the middle of nowhere.
After the ceremony, it was time for cake and drinks with all the guests, before heading back to the town for a nice dinner to end this truly unique wedding.
